Hurricane Harvey occurred on August 25th- September 3rd, this caused mass destruction in the state of Texas. Buildings, homes, power supplies, and roads were destroyed. There has also been flooding, which are causing cleanups, destructions, and reconstructions of wrecked structures. With all this wreckage, there aren’t construction workers to help rebuild the homes in Texas. There was also a lack in help to rescue people, there also weren’t volunteers to help deliver food to people in need. There were 70 deaths.

The state might not have enough resources to help rebuild the city. The United States is lacking in people who specialize in construction. Without the human resources to help rebuild Texas, the process will be much longer and harder. In an article written by David Randall, He states that contractors failed on filing in positions to work in construction. In one city alone, there are up to 13,000 buildings to be built again. In another article, written by Daniel Gross, it is said that there used to be construction workers who immigrated to work in construction. There was a housing bust which left construction workers to get laid off. After a while, workers either made the journey back to their home countries or ended up getting deported back. With those people leaving, it made the construction population lower which is reason for the lack of help for reconstruction. The lack of construction workers isn’t the only problem they are facing. They are also facing a lack of engineers to repair damaged automobiles.

A construction worker, Cesario Pacheco, has been working in construction for some years now. When asked about how long it would about how long it would take to rebuild a two story house, his response was an estimate of about a month to two months. When asked about how much it would cost to builds a two story house, he replied “A two story house would be about $250,000.” “ Without a special liquid that is added to wood, it would be completely damaged if submerged in water for 24 hours. Another question was about where the house would have to be built. He said, that it all depended on the damage. If it was much too damaged, it would have to be built from the very start. “Construction workers have more experience, and would be able to help the people who don’t have any experience but want to help”.
Hopefully, Texas will get the help they need. It was very unfortunate for this to happen to the citizens. There is lack of other resources, like financial resources. It will cost a lot of money to rebuild these cities. It won’t just cost a lot of money, it will also take a huge amount of time. If there is a way to volunteer, you should take that opportunity.
