The Ending of DACA

Ashley Hernandez

On September 5th, 2017, president Trump announced there will be no renewal for DACA. They will no longer accept initial refor DACA. On June 5th, 2012 former president Barack Obama created a new policy called DACA; this is the Consideration of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals.
He created this program to protect certain young undocumented people who came to the United States as children and had no choice because their parents brought them without any say in it to keep them from getting deported and live a better life. According to the uscis.gov, this program is available for two years and when the time is up, they are required to renew it. When it comes to this, not just any immigrant can get DACA, you have to be eligible and meet certain criteria in order to apply. Some of the standards that you have to have that you have to be 31 years or younger with no criminal records.
According to immigrationequality.org, you need a high school diploma or a GED certification, or you have to be honorably discharged from the military or still in High School .
There are around 800,000 undocumented immigrants who are under DACA and has helped them out a whole lot with their careers, education and jobs. DACA ending could affect many of people who have worked hard their whole lives just to make something of their life and be successful in their future. The reason Trump does not want to renew it is because 10 state attorney generals say that DACA is illegal and gave him up to September 5th to end it if not, they will file suit to end it.
Trump gave the option to the congress to see if they can find a way

to save it and make it a better program. I asked if he knew any information about the DACA changes, Mr. Falcon responded with “President Trump is going to repeal it and give it back to the Senate and make a solution. He told the congress to work a solution because he wants to get rid of something former president Obama has done and blame it on someone else while Trump washes his hands on it.” He also said,“Trumps repeal is permanent, congress is saying people need to go back home. People who were born here deserve the same rights as everyone else I don’t see it happening, the congress will come up with a solution because it will be bad luck for the country.” The new program, Latinos In Action teacher also had a lot to say about DACA.
Busatch said, there are many students who have came to him and been worried about this change because they aren’t sure if they will be able to continue to study and will affect their future they have been working hard to get. Their parents are worried about what Trump is capable of.
He believes that the congress will come up with a better program because they can’t leave thousands of people hanging who are counting on DACA, if they care about the country the Congress will do anything to support the people who live in it. Busatch personally reached out to our Utah senators and emailed them about his opinion on DACA. They reached back out to him and said they don’t support the ending of DACA either and they are trying their best to not only keep DACA but to invent something better that will not expire in two years. It might be more expensive but he definitely believes the congress will make a better program.
