Our Kearns High Athlete of the Month for October is Ethan Leavitt. Ethan is a Sophomore at Kearns High School. Ethan has only played football for one year and this would be his first. “Football is the only sport I play and I enjoy it a lot because it gives me a brotherhood,” says Ethan.
Why do you enjoy playing football? “It’s challenging, the integrity, the hitting, the feeling you get on the field with your jersey on,” he says. Ethan got to choose his position he wanted to play, he chose tight end and he chose his jersey number which is 12. Ethan’s jersey number has a lot of family meaning and background behind it. He chose tight end because he thought he would be good at it and he thought it would be a good position.

says Ethan. What meaning does football have to you? “The core values makes me better because it teaches me how to have discipline, integrity, courage, and respect.” Who is someone you look up to? “I look up to my brother and dad because my dad is always working hard; He is a hardworking man and he is just a perfect example, he does things that he doesn’t need to do. My dad always gets everything done that needs to be done.” How do you prepare or get ready for the season? “I went to practices every day when they had them. I went to all the weight training practices they had, or I got the chance to go to.” Some of the best memories Ethan had were at Camp Williams because he is working hard and he gets better by going to the camp. Some bad things or disadvantages are that Ethan’s friends or teammates can get hurt.
Can you tell me about the type of player you are, how you play your game, and what your strategies are? “My coaches have taught me to put 100% of effort into energy play. if I do that and all my teammates do we will be successful. Also, I think that strategy requiers a lot of trust and faith because you. have to be able to trust the quarterback to throw a good ball you, also trust the linemen to get a block and protect the quarterback while making a hole for running backs. But in order to have that trust, you have to be family and that’s why we always say K-Town family. Because in this game, you basically need to be family to trust your teammates and I think our efforts and our trust is what defines our success.” Has Ethan’s life gotten better playing football? His life has gotten better because it gives him a brotherhood and a life experience. “Football for me is about the brotherhood out on the field playing as a team and either winning or losing as one big family.” Says. Over all for Ethan, football has been great for him. Playing football makes him stronger and Ethan is doing something he loves. Over the years he will get stronger and become a better player.
