Our Kearns High Athlete of the Month of November is David Andrew. David is a senior this year at Kearns High School. David has played basketball since he was in fourth grade. David Andrew said, “Ever since fourth grade I have had a huge passion and I loved it ever since then.” Plus, he is 6’6 which is a good height for basketball. David’s positions in basketball is one-four which is point guard and power forward.
Does basketball mean anything to him? If so what? “It means absolutely everything to me.” he said Because it opens up so many chances for things in life. I have so many scouts looking at me but I’m not quite sure where I would like to go yet”. David enjoys playing basketball because he likes to put his work in and he gets to work hard.
David plays more than one sport; cross country and track (high jump). Out of all the sports he plays, basketball is his favorite. It’s David’s favorite because he can get somewhere with basketball. He can get long time scholarships or even life time jobs. That’s why he works so hard for what he wants in life. Some of his family play basketball and they are his mom for three years, his dad for seven years, aunt, uncle, and many more.
The Cougar Claw asked if he look up to anyone one if so who and why? David said he looks us to his brother because he almost made it to the professionals and he helps David a lot. He is showing him how to become better. While playing this season some great things have happened what were those things? He taveled from state to state and met new people. He learned new cultures and languages. There are always bumps in the road. so what were some of those? The only bad things that David could think of are his knee problems. Over the years David has kept the same jersey number since he was able to touch a basketball , his number is three and that mean a lot to him. David’s life has gotten better playing basketball because if it wasn’t for basketball, he wouldn’t be focused on his grades, his classes, and keeping his GPA score up.
David and his team always prepare for a game by telling themselves that what happened last time or last season didn’t happen and doesn’t matter, because this time is new and they have every opportunity to win as a team. Before every basketball game, David has a routine he does. First he goes to Subway, then he watches NBA videos, stretches, eats one banana, then takes a power nap but really isn’t a power nap because he’s thinking about the game in his head. Then by that time, it’s time for the games and he’s pumped and ready to go. For David, basketball is a great way for him to keep his grades up and he plays because he loves it. He loves it and can’t wait to play in college and maybe have a career.
