Lighting of the Kearns Christmas Tree

“What if Christmas, he thought, doesn’t come from a store. What if Christmas…perhaps…means a little bit more!” (Dr. Suess). The holiday season has rolled around again, and we are starting to see different places light up. The Hogle Zoo, Temple Square, The Gateway, and many other places, like Kearns. We have our very own Christmas tree, not very many people know about it, which makes sense seeing as this is our first year of having one. It’s been a project that’s been in the process of getting finished for years though, about six or seven.

The Christmas tree is very close to our own high school! You drive down 5400 South and it’s on the south side of the street; right across from the fire station. It’s a great set up for its first year. The lot has the tree and a few presents under it. The section is gated off, but it would be a great place to take family or friends and have pictures taken.

The Cougar Claw had an interview with Roger Snow, one of the people behind the plan for the Christmas tree. The plan had been in effect for many years and it’s still going to take a while to get the project finished. Ideally 5 years to get the whole lot filled with things for the season. During the interview he said, “Kearns deserves something like this. A place to go to and have fun during the Christmas season.” He would also like to give a big thank you to the Kearns Metro Township Council and Kearns Community Council, without them this project wouldn’t have been possible.
