There are many new teachers in the school this year. One of them being Kassidee Petersen, an English teacher. This will be her first year teaching at Kearns but last year she was a teacher’s assistant here. Ms. Petersen went to the University of Utah. When Mr. Petersen was asked why she wanted to be a teacher her response was “That’s a great question, I don’t know just for as long as I can remember I’ve said I wanted to be a teacher. My friends would come over and we would play school and I would insist on being the teacher. It’s just something from a very young age I knew I wanted to do and it stuck with me.”
Ms. Petersen was asked what her favorite book is and she said “I have a lot of favorite books but a book that I have read multiple times and really gave me a love for reading is Perks of Being a Wallflower. I think it changed reading for me at a really young age. So that’s my go to.”
When Ms. Petersen was asked her favorite thing or genre to teach she said “Anything to do with writing. I love writing. I have a passion for writing and hope to in the future teach creative writing. Whether it’s narratives or arguments. Writing is my favorite thing to teach.”
She was asked what her favorite movie is and responded by saying “I love horror movies and I would say that Scream is my favorite movie.” She was asked what her favorite thing to do outside of school is and she said “outside of school during the summer I really like to go camping. Any other time of the year I really like to play Sims.” She was asked where her favorite place to go outside of school is and she responded by saying “I’m really big into water so I like Bear lake. I think that’s like the best lake in all of Utah. Any lake really, I like to go out on the wave runners. We have wave runners. I love the lake even if it’s just paddle boarding.”
Although these new teachers are still learning what works best for them and their students at least their students are learning with them.
