I am going to talk about divorced parents in just the state of Utah, percentage of divorced families with and without children. I am getting my information from now and years prior, from my own experience and my interviewees experiences. There are many reasons why people get divorced, and in what ways it affects kids. I am going to talk about the most common things. I will be giving more information and details about how many families have divorced with and without children.
There are probably more divorced families with and without children than you might think. And these children aren’t always grown adults. Roughly 31% of families in Utah end in divorce, 60% of these families have children under the age of 18. William Durr who comes from a divorced family answers the question of, how old were you and your siblings when your parents got divorced? His answer was “9, 6, 3, and my little sister was born shortly after the divorce was finalized.”. Now that we know how many families have divorced with and without children, what are the main causes for divorce?
If that percent of families ends in divorce, what are the reasons they get divorced? There are many reasons people choose divorce. A couple of the main reasons are, lack of commitment, getting married at a young age, infidelity, and domestic violence. I asked my interviewee if he knew why his parents are divorced. His response was “I was never told why my biological parents got divorced. But my mom and her recent ex-husband got divorced because he was very abusive.”. My interviewee William Durr is very important because his parents are divorced, and they have both been divorced 2 times. Divorce affects more than just the parents getting divorced, but how does it really affect the children?
Everyone is worried about the 2 adults getting divorced and the children are often forgotten about. Children of divorced parents are often overlooked because they are “too young” to understand and they won’t know anything different. “Being a child of divorced parents is hard because you learn to be the go between, to do things on your own, and to possibly raise your younger siblings.”. This quote came from Izzy Durr (me) and it’s important because I have been a child of divorce almost my whole life and I’m the oldest girl of 4 kids. With all of these reasons and information there are many other less important things that have to do with divorce.
The least important fact in this article is the percent of divorced families without children.
