What is your definition of beauty standards in and outside of Utah?
In an interview for cougar claw the former fashion designer teacher, Counselor Hannah Sherbel,
A cougar claw reporter asked her what was her opinion of beauty standards in and outside of our community, and how does she view the beauty standard?
On the date 9/07/23 at 8:00 am in her counseling office, on why growing up in Utah with a specific beauty standard on how girls need to look is pressuring thinking that you need to look a certain way just because we live in Utah.
When a cougar claw reporter asked her what her opinion on the beauty standards in and outside of Utah she stated “I think that it’s different and the same cause there’s different cultures that have different styles, I think based on the demographics of the school there’s going to be different things just because based on their culture, religion, or what you’re interested in there’s always going to be differences but there’s always going to be similarities whether its nails, makeup style, etc. I think social media is a big part of it too, I think it’s always going to be different based on your background.”
But what about her opinion on the beauty standards in Kearns, cause when you really think about it when you think about a Utah girl what comes to mind is as Counselor Hannah sherbel stated “probably blond, lash extensions, stanley cup, usually a manicure, as far as clothing mom jeans, overalls, and or the shorts with a oversized T-shirt.”
As when she thinks about beauty standards in Kearns she stated that “ Whenever i think about beauty standards in Kearns I think that they are set depending on the current trends or set by society, but Kearns is more accepting depending on how you set your own beauty standard, because Kearns is very good at letting people set their own standards in beauty, but also depending on dress code depending what people can and can’t wear.”
When Counselor Sherbel acknowledges Kearns for being very accepting of letting everyone choose their own beauty standard, the Cougar Claw reporter couldn’t agree more. It’s not that the Kearns community judges but more that they don’t care and that’s a great thing about Kearns. But does counselor Sherbel agree with this beauty standard that she has set, she stated that “I think that there’s a little bit of pressure in society to set, a lot of outside influence and a lot of pressure on people who follow beauty standards on Instagram or any type of social media.”
But would Counselor Hannah sherbel say that having a more diverse community is better than a Undiverse community? As Hannah sherbel assertively stated that “I think that there’s no better or worse basically again, depending on how you were raised, culture, etc. there’s going to be those different influences, and that’s kind of the problem lately that there’s a lot of comparing and that you have to be this way or that way i think it’s more important to find what’s good for you, I love seeing people incorporate their culture and background in the way they dress. I think it’s very important for people to show their culture and their identity and to avoid comparing that
