The Olympics are a special and important event for a lot of people, especially sports players and lovers. Thousands of people around the world will travel states and countries to watch the Olympic games in person, which proves the significance of the event.
On November 29, 2023, the Olympic committee announced that Utah would be the preferred state for the winter Olympics in 2034. This Was an exciting announcement for many citizens in Utah, especially sport-oriented citizens, such as the sports coaches at Kearns High School. When the Cougar Claw interviewed coach Bob, we got his word on the thoughts and feelings for himself and his team on this event. “I think it’s the highest competition in the world, you represent your country, your family and yourself.” The Olympics often resonate with these coaches, and most would highly encourage their athletes to train and tryout for the Olympics.
The location of the Olympic games doesn’t matter to most, but to others it is sentimental to have this event hosted in their own state; where they have the opportunity to watch the games in person. During the Winter Olympics hosted in Salt Lake City in 2002, Ostberg got to experience the international event and would agree about these emotions himself.
Hosting the Olympic games in Utah has its pros and cons. During the 2002 Winter Olympics in Utah, we raised millions of dollars that went to our government and towards helping other countries. Given the opportunity to hold this event, Utah also gained a higher social status. However, hosting this huge event can have its downside. With thousands of people flying in from other places, we experience local inflation, a rise in real estate pricing, hotels and prices for the location of the event. Is it worth it for Utah to host this event?
