Spirit week is it more directed for the younger underclassmen or is it still something even the seniors look forward to? I have taken two perspectives from students at Kearns High one being an underclassman and the other a senior. Both students had pretty similar thoughts and appreciate the school spirit that this event brings in.
Brody Wilcox a junior at Kearns likes to express himself and put himself out there so it would be no surprise to hear from him speak on the week with high praises stating “ I can understand why it’s important for some students like me for example, I can appreciate the energy that is brought around during the week seeing friend groups look forward to the dance and the days you dress up for theme. And yes I do believe spirit week is more intended for the underclassmen to enjoy just so they can feel some school spirit for their first years in high school but I can also appreciate what it does for seniors giving them that kind of last goodbye with great energy surrounding the school leading up to their graduation and luckily it only last a week so it gives all students a sort of break to pay attention to something else during school which could be needed for some.”
Karen Medina in her final year of high school she gave me her input on how after these past 3 years she sees spirit week telling me “It greats at the time it comes to lead up to sweethearts and get everyone in the mood to be out there with themselves and meet new people, I’m also glad that towards the end of the week they have an assembly that all grade levels go to showing amazing school spirit and it’s a nice goodbye to those seniors who leave in a few months. Overall I like what it stands for and how it brings students together especially those freshman and sophomore who can get out of their shells and not be afraid to meet new people and be themselves around them.”
Yes they and others might believe it’s more directed to the undergraduates but they still appreciate what it brings to them so why let these moments slip in the only 4 years you get to experience them. Go make memories during these times that you will never regret.
