As the 2023-2024 school year ends, we are getting ready to say goodbye to our beloved seniors. It has been a long four years for those leaving but soon enough their labors will be fruitful. They will go on to college or a career, or even military… the possibilities are endless. But one thing is for sure, a farewell is due to those who became mentors, friends, and even family.
First things first though, seniors must hold out a little longer to make it to graduation. Graduation will be held on the 24th of May at 9:00 am in the Maverik center. Students will be responsible for their own transportation. Though this may make it difficult for some students to attend the graduation an effort would be appreciated. This will be a big day for seniors, and having their friends, family, and other loved ones there to congratulate them will make the day even more special. Though attending graduation is not the only way to give support to seniors.
For parents, teachers, and mentors, it may help your seniors to discuss their future and the opportunities that will come along. Principle Stirland of Kearns High School was asked what can be done to support the seniors leaving Kearns. He responded, “When I think of support, I think about how we help students prepare for life after high school. So, whether that is helping them get FASFA applications filled out for college, help them get scholarships, or give them information about careers they want to go into.” Alongside helping seniors with college and scholarships, they may want or require help with life skills such as responsibility, communication, and dependability.
As the lower-class students continue their high school career, they should look to those seniors who took them under their wings and showed them the ropes of high school. You can take those memorable moments that have been witnessed throughout the year. Students can look to the seniors in theater and their motivation to continue performing throughout their high school career, or they may look upon seniors of the bands and their constant drive to fix their mistakes displayed through their music. Look upon the sports teams and the seniors who have spent countless hours training and making sure they are at their best for the next game. The SBO’s who have made an incredible effort to not only provide exciting events but also to ensure they run smoothly.
As our beloved seniors leave to continue their journey through life, they will look to their peers and mentors for guidance. We are their footstools; their support beams and they were once those for us. The younger students taken under their wings now must push them forward to fly on their own. So, as the 2023-2024 school year ends say goodbye to your seniors as a simple thank you.
