Marines are one of the top toughest branches there is. Not only is it tough but they give their whole life and faith to the marines. People think being strong and just getting through all the physical challenges is all you need to be a marine. The truth is there are many challenges that you need to get through, not just to be passing all the physical obstacles. The Marines are ready to fight and win for their country, making sure we stay free and safe. Marines have a saying “Semper Fidelis” meaning always faithful. They also say, “Once a marine always marine.” No hero that serves our country will be forgotten. The marines are not all you think they are. It’s a scary world to live in, but it also gives you a life lesson. Many people from the marines tell you they love it or hate it. It’s not an easy question for them. It’s easy to see why people become a marine not just to get all the good benefits. From its meaning not just for the money but for an experience of a lifetime.
The challenges that a marine can face can be scary or terrifying to us citizens. Marines learn how to deal with every situation that is possible to happen in a war. Talking to a marine before you think of joining them is the best way to know you are ready. Learning experiences from other Marines can help you get through the challenges that you may struggle with. The most struggles you would have to face is boot camp. “I’ve had a lot of mental battles in training. It’s hard to have all your loved ones so far and hard to reach out to.” (Joe) This is where all your mental strength must come in. Boot camp is hard to the point “feels impossible”, said Martinez. You have to have that mindset that you can do anything because if you don’t believe in yourself then “they are going to break you down to build you up.” (Joseph) Many people need to make sure they are there for their loved ones who are fighting and training for us. “If you know a person that’s out there going through hell and back that keeps going then take your time to write a letter. It could say how proud you are but that’s what keeps us marines going.” (Joe)
Even with all these battles these Devil Dogs face they are stronger and better than ever. Most people don’t know if they should or shouldn’t join the marines. It’s not because they are scared that no one supports them, or they hear horrible stories. It can be difficult to see the truth about the marines. Make sure you talk to the right people who can also tell you all the good stories too. Many marines made who it through the obstacles will tell you “It was challenging but at the end you will always come back better than before you left.” (Joe) The marines can change a person, it’s up to the marine to make it a good or bad change. “Keep a mindset where you balance your advantages and disadvantages. Never doubt yourself or others because Marines are not for the weak. “Pain is just weakness leaving the body.” (Marine Corps)
