Kearns High’s JV tennis player Valeria Calderon gives us a deeper look on sports life with a medical condition. While having a medical condition in everyday life can be scary but now having the pressure and worry to keep up with it in tennis. And still having to perform to the best of your ability on the tennis court. How does Valeria do it?
Well, this is what she was asked on March 21, 2024, Valeria has type 1 diabetes and has had them her whole life. And shares that it was actually passed down from her parents, Valeria states that “My mom and my dad both have diabetes, my mom having type 1 and my dad having type 2 so it was never something that was unusual in my house.” Which shows how diabetes was normal in their household and was nothing new to them.
She was also asked how her medical condition interferes with tennis? And she expresses that “It all depends on the way my blood sugar is that day and how I play. also, how focused I am and how much energy I have but I always try my best regardless” Which goes to show despite Valeria’s unpredictable medical condition she always tries to keep a positive mindset and pushes herself to do her best.
In addition to that, Valeria Calderon was also asked what motivates her to be a better player with having all the odds against her?? She expresses that “I just wanted to show everyone that I was still capable of doing things despite my medical condition and it is just so different from all the things my parents have done.” Which shows how Valeria never let her medical condition be an excuse or get in the way of doing the things she loves. To sum it all up on this tennis takeover this shows how Valerias dedication and determination has gotten her here and how she never let her medical condition stand in the way of doing what she loves.
