Kearns High has a new theater teacher. His name is Ab Harrison; he is super excited to be at this new school and for the show. When asked why he chose KHS he said, “I think truthfully I loved the big program, the massive stage, and the friendly staff.” He says we have amazing faculty.
“It is a great experience working with faculty members on this project,” Harrison says. He spent three years teaching theater in Louisiana and one year teaching English at Utah Military Academy. He has been teaching theater for 12 years, he has his bachelor’s in English education, master’s in directing/ stage combat, and MFA in playwriting. He oversees the musical this year. Usually, rehearsals go for two months but he is adding another three months. Harrison has directed so many other plays such as “Clue”, “Sherwood The Adventures of Robin Hood”, “Oklahoma!”, “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels”, and he fights directed “The Hobbit”.
This year he is directing the musical at KHS, “Hadestown”. He chooses these musicals by having students pitch ideas and then he goes through them with his faculty and decides from there. “Hadestown” is a retelling of the Greek tragedy of Orpheus and Eurydice sung through a musical. It is a journey to rescue his beloved from the underworld. The leads for this play are Tyler Parkin as Orpheus, Alizette Rivas as Eurydice, Piper Jones as Persephone, and James Loubet as Hades. If you are interested in seeing this it will be performed on November 14-15th at 7 pm, 16th at 12 am AND 7 pm, and the 18th at 7 pm. It will be in the auditorium at Kearns High School.
