As the weather is finally starting to get colder, hiking is becoming a bit more limited. Before it gets too chilly outside, here are some hikes to hit.
Arches National Park, which is only 3 and a half hours away from Salt Lake City, is a perfect weekend getaway. Taura Wright, a Murray resident who loves hiking, says the best hike to do while you’re there is Devil’s Canyon. “On that trail you can see about 8 unique arches!” When asked about the difficulty level 1-10, she said it was about a 7. “There are a few places that require some scrambling and advanced skill.” For non-hiking sights, Taura says Delicate Arch and Double Arch are the ones to see. “It is so iconic and awe inspiring to see the 40 feet tall arch up close. Double Arch is an incredible landmark also.” You can visit the website nps.gov to learn more about the park.
Canyonlands National Park, which is about 3 hours and 40 minutes from Salt Lake City, is a fun, family friendly location. Jamiel Khwaja, a Taylorsville resident who is an avid explorer, says Canyonlands is expansive with a variety of things to see. “Canyonlands is an expansive, wide-ranging place to go with many different regions to explore.” Jamiel recommends the Mesa Arch and Upheaval Dome hike. “The Mesa Arch Hike is probably the most famous one, but that one’s little.” The hikes are relatively short. Jamiel says that as for difficulty, Mesa Arch is about a 1/10, claiming it as “very easy.” He also thinks the Upheaval Dome hike is about 4/10. You can visit the website nps.gov to learn more.
Frances Romero, a frequent visitor and traveler, loves to go to Zion National Park. When asked what she thinks of the park, she explained how she liked being able to hike there. “I enjoy hiking and for me, there are so many hikes available at Zion.” Her favorite hike to do there is Angels Landing, labeled one of the most dangerous hikes in the United States. “Well, Angels Landing is quite impressive!” For difficulty level, Frances rated it a 7/10. “If a person was not keen on height, it would be higher.” To do this hike, you need to make a reservation for a specific day. The cost is $3 a person to register. They can also be done up to a day before your hike. You can visit the website nps.gov to learn more about the hike, as well as make your reservation.
Hurry to these National Parks before the snow begins to stick. Make sure to take the proper safety measures when hiking in cold or snowy conditions. Wear spikes on shoes, use hiking poles, and wear layers. Make sure to alert family members of your whereabouts before going there and stay safe.
