The Olympic Oval has lots of fun activities to do during the winter besides just ice skating. Just because Christmas is over doesn’t mean the fun has to end. At the Oval, they have loads of fun activities for you to enjoy with your family. The Oval is located at 5662 Cougar Lane in Kearns.
To break it down, there are a few specific events happening in the next two months. They have a track meet on January 31st and the 1st of February. In February, they are also having a Golden Sprint track competition and a Distance Challenge. So, make sure to attend and support your local schools!
The big question everyone is probably asking is, “What are the age requirements?” and “How much is admission?” The Oval tries to please everyone of all ages, so they have events planned for the littles and some for the adults who are bored of the same old same old. There are some age requirements for some classes to make sure smaller children understand the instructions. Most of the basic events have no age requirements but do require waivers. Admission is $5 and skate rentals are $6. So, nothing too crazy to get in and have some fun.
The Olympic Oval has a planning process that they follow to determine what events will occur in future months. First, the Oval must look at data from previous years and see how many people attended. Second, they must make sure that they have staff ready to go and contact certain individuals to make sure whatever they are planning is possible with the right people. Third, they need to make sure they have enough room and whatever space they need. Ben Kaas, an employee at the Oval says, “The Oval uses event data sheets to help determine all of these factors to plan out events.”
One of the biggest and most successful events at the Olympic Oval was, in fact, the 2002 Winter Olympics. Derek Parra, a customer that’s been going to the Oval for years says, “It established our greatest accomplishment, building a multipurpose building, offering activities to the highschoolers, and members/workers coming together to put on the games.” It was incredible how much went into those games and people coming together, working hard, and creating something beautiful.
