UTAH communities are reacting after Charlie Kirk, a right-wing activist, was assassinated at Utah Valley University on September 10, 2025. The assassination has sent many political opinions across the country.
ACCORDING to eyewitnesses, Kirk was shot in the neck by a rifle bullet while engaging with the audience members about, ironically, mass shootings in the USA. The suspect that had shot Kirk is suspected to be 22-year old Tyler James Robinson. Robinson has been arrested with aggravated murder. Robinson stated that he killed Kirk because he had spread too much evil and negativity around.
THE investigation revealed that Robinson acted alone, using a rifle. The cartridges found in the rifle were inscribed with various messages, including references to anti-fascist as well as internet memes and popular culture.
IN the aftermath of the assassination, President Donald Trump and other conservative figures blamed left-wing groups for the attack, despite a lack of evidence. The incident also sparked a national debate on rising political violence and the need for greater civility in public discourse.
ACCORDING to Tina Snow (Kearns Resident), her grandchildren used to watch Charlie Kirk’s debates. She found out about the assassination when her daughter called her. She felt sad for Kirk’s children, who now must grow up without a father.
BECKY Sparks (Kearns Resident) said she did not know who Charlie Kirk was before the assassination. She learned about the event from coworkers whose cousin was at the campus. Sparks said the news makes her want to avoid social media, as it is hard for people to find common ground.
MARSHALL Sparks (Kearns Resident) said he did not know who Charlie Kirk was before the assassination. He learned about the event from his car radio. Sparks said he feels society is broken and feels bad for those at the event, as it must have been traumatizing.
IN conclusion, the Charlie Kirk assassination is a tragic reminder of the dangers of political violence and the need for greater tolerance and understanding in the public discourse. As the investigation continues, it is essential that the community comes together as a nation and become a more civil and respectful national dialogue.
