Suicide Prevention

Suicide prevention month has recently passed from September 10 to October 10. If students wish to support the ribbon colors are purple and turquoise. Suicide affects all the students even if they have never had suicidal thoughts or known someone who has. 59% of students who were asked (102) if they know someone who has said yes. 36% of students admitted to having suicidal thoughts. 22% had lost someone to suicide.

Suicide is the third leading killer among young adults. A person does not need to have depression or any other kind of mental disorder to have suicidal thoughts. It could be anyone from the most special in a student’s life to someone they have never even noticed. To someone from a different culture, to younger or older.

As a school students, teachers, faculty, are encouraged to listen for cries of help. After asking someone who will remain anonymous said “I’m so tired, so numb, so neglected and excluded, that I’m convinced that it’s the best decision to make.” If any students ever feel like this and have suicidal thoughts talk to a friend, a counselor, or a parent. If none of this work, contact the Hotline at 1-800-273-8255 or text “START” at 741-741.
