Kearns Basketbal Preview
December 16, 2015
As basketball season rolls around teams begin to prepare themselves for the journey that lies ahead. For most teams it may be just a winning season or even a glimpse of improvement from their previous season. For Kearns Boys Basketball team, coached by Dan Cosby their goals and aspirations for the upcoming season are much more than that, they have their eyes set on a state championship.
Last year in the 2014-2015-basketball season Kearns had their hearts broken in a loss to Bountiful in the state championship game 66-54. Leading up to that game they were on a roll, going 19-8 on the season. Unfortunately, Kearns has lost a few seniors from that 2014-2015 roster including their star Bushman Ebet. Ebet led the team in PPG (points per game) and SPG (steals per game) and was the emotional leader of his team.
There are also returning players who had a role in last years’ championship run such as Kur Kuath and Tayler Marteliz. Kuath was an outstanding defensive player leading his team in blocks per game with 2.5 and was second in rebounds per game last season. Ultimately Kur is the best defensive player and rebounder on the team this year. As well as being a pretty well rounded player he is also in nearly every game, the tallest too.
Kearns is expecting to be a powerhouse team and after last years’ season there should be no reason anyone should expect them to be any less than great. Certainly this year, these boys expect to go to that championship again, except this time win and be the state champions they know they deserve.
