What Is Comic Con
March 21, 2016
People dress up to attend a sports event and no one bats an eye, while when people dress up to go to conventions, such as comic con, they are looked at strangely.
I went to comic con with my uncle. The line to get in stretched all the way down the street. It was an hour wait, but surprising it was not a boring one. As people walked by to get to the end of the line we got to admire the several different cosplays. There were people dressed up in full length Disney princess gowns, several TV and cartoon chapters, and anime characters, and so on. It was impressive to see all the time and effort people put into it.
Once we finally got in, I noticed that most of the place was full of booths with tons of merchandise. People and companies had rented the booths to sell things that they had made. There were booths full of tee shirts, pins, plusies, toys, crafts, and much more. Everything was very professionally done, though the prizes did vary. Some were decently prized, while others were extremely expensive. I quickly noticed that one could never bring enough money to comic con.
All around I could tell that everyone was very dedicated. From the money they spent, the costumes, and the peer excitement t was clear that they all cared about this sort of thing very much. But how much does it really cost to go to Comic Con.
The daily passes cost between 20 and 55 dollars depending on the day. Everyone has the option of buying Vip or Gold passes which cost more but give them things such as line cuts and Early access to everything. Plus the money and time put into creating cosplays.
Some people put hundreds to thousands of dollars into it while others are creative and stretch what money they have and still make amazing cosplays. I saw a cool Five Nights At Freddies Costume and I asked how much he spent on it. He replied that he only spent 20 to 30 dollars on it. He said it was made out of cardboard and fabric. Yet, it still looked very well done.
People also spend tons of money buying merchandise, food, photo offs and autographs. To get an autograph from one of my favorite actors, it was 60 dollars and a hour and half wait.
Although many think of people who go to conventions and dress up are slightly nerdy, they seem to not care. They love going to these types of things and it is showed on how much effort they put into going.
