The Scoop on Snow Cream

Negative lifestyle choices could potentially lead to certain diseases such as, diabetes, heart disease, weight problems, and more. Most of these diseases can be prevented through a healthy diet. West Valley is now offering a new healthy frozen dessert place, which can be a window to prevent these diseases.
Today, these diseases are a serious life problem many Americans face. According to Robert Preidt, a Healthday Reporter, states “Poor diet was associated with 1 in 5 deaths.” In the same article, “Smoking, Poor Diet Lead Global Death Causes” he also says “Heart disease was the leading cause of premature death in most regions, accounting for 9.5 million deaths.”
One might think that a healthy diet means strictly eating salads or smoothies and cutting out all unhealthy sweets and desserts. However, this is not always the case. There is a new healthy dessert shop for Utahns, that won’t break the bank, located in the West Valley area called Shirokuma.
Shirokuma serves “snow cream” which is flavored shaved ice. One of the managers, Chris Bambrough, states, “It is healthier than frozen yogurt and ice cream.” He also explains that snow cream has a dairy base, but contains less sugar than ice cream and frozen yogurt.
Shaved ice is just a block of ice, and each flavor is frozen into the block. These blocks are then put into a machine, which slices the ice into ribbons.
They offer a variety of unique snow cream flavors such as taro, honeydew melon, strawberry, coconut, which is a dairy free option made with coconut milk, and more. Every month, a limited time flavor is also offered.
As far as toppings go, they offer, pineapple, kiwi, mango, peaches, and many more. Chris says, “The toppings are cut daily to be as fresh as possible.”
Shirokuma was founded the end of November 2016, and in May 2017, they won Utah Best of State for Best Frozen Dessert. Their location is 2843 S. 5600 W in suite 120. They are easy to spot because they have a bright pink and white logo.
