The Meditation of a New Class

Zoe Hawkins, Student life writer

Kearns – In all the years of Kearns High, this year just might be the first to introduce a yoga class to the students. The new yoga class is taught by the cheer coach, Ms. Anderson. She teaches the class for first and second period on B days.  What is yoga exactly? It is a meditation method that involves exercise.

In the class, the students do several yoga poses and will shift each pose with each inhale and exhale. It is said that Ms. Anderson uses relaxing music to keep her students relaxed. She also reassures them that what they can do is good and to not push themselves.

The class is a semester long and it is open to all students. It is also focused on learning fundamental body conditioning and restorative rest practices. The class works on strength training, flexibility, endurance, coordination, focus, and agility. It also works on resistance training and other movement practices.

A few of the yoga poses are down dog, up dog, mountain pose, and sleeping swan. The mountain pose is standing with your feet together and your arms at your sides. With your feet and hands on the floor and your butt in that air it’s down dog. Up dog is kind of reverse with the top of your feet on the ground and your butt down along with your legs. Your hands are on the floor and your holding yourself up with your arms extended. Then sleeping swan is laying on your stomach with one let out to the side with your knee bent.

Though, it may be easy to try these things at home. It seems like taking this class would be relaxing when in school. So, whether you need to add another class to your schedule or you think you may need some peace in your life then sign up for it when you get the chance. Maybe it will be able to give you a different perspective of life.
