Kearns- We’ve all heard the stories about razor blades and poison being put in candy. But how often does this happen? Halloween has many urban myths that come with it like tampered candy. Staying safe on Halloween is dependent on quite a few things, never going alone, sticking to places you or your friends have been before, and parents accompanying their kids, knowing the difference between a fact and urban myths on Halloween could keep you safe, or your candy safe from your parents using urban myths to get your candy. Knowing what houses to avoid should always be a factor of where you go trick or treating. The idea of going to the wealthier neighborhoods for bigger and better candy is common and understandable but you should still be careful. When it comes to the tempered candy myth only one case was proven, and that was in 1974, Pasadena, Texas, when a man poisoned his child’s candy and earned the nickname the candy man. One danger of Halloween is pranks, pranks can be harmless, but if a prank goes wrong someone can get hurt. If you plan to prank someone be careful, you don’t want to be setting up to scare your friend and instead scare a child. The cougar claw sat down with local teen Brittany Dunn and asked how she plans to stay safe this Halloween. “I plan on keeping my phone on me and staying in a group of friends so that none of us are on our own.” Staying in a group and keeping your phone on you are great ways of staying safe on this spooky holiday. Never go out on Halloween alone even adults shouldn’t go alone, and make sure you don’t hurt anyone either. Sources: USA Today.
