What is art? Why is it so important? Today, The Cougar Claw has asked the people of Kearns, specifically the teachers and students at Kearns High School! Art is apparent in every corner of the world! Have you ever wondered why that is? Why art has an effect as big as it does? After interviewing the people of Kearns, The Cougar Claw may have found out just that!
During The Cougar Claw’s interview with Caress Perry, a teacher at Kearns High, Ms. Perry brought up an interesting point when asked why art is important in a community. “We as humans are made to be designers, we were made to create…” art is a part of the human thought process, it is written into our minds that art is meaningful and beautiful! “When we create and design things, we are just being who we are as humans, when we as a community are allowed to create it gives us the ability to beautify a building, or the environment in general!” Having the ability to change an environment to your liking can make you more comfortable in your own neighborhood or even home! Student Starr O’dell mentioned “Art can show the problems within a community and can cause people to take action!” As an artist Starr makes her work based on real world issues and believes there is truly change to be made and that change, that movement, starts with speaking out, starts with people realizing the problem!
“My favorite art piece? Would probably have to be my poem that I’m working on right now!” Even something like a poem or story can cause so much change and is very much so a form of art! The cougar claw has realized that art can have influence, and is important in every home, city, state, and country in the world!
