Most of us have had that favorite teacher before, the one where no matter the amount of work or the struggle, you still did it just because the teacher was that enjoyable or made the work more experimental and collaborative. Even if you are not the talkative type you still feel included and that you can ask for help when needed from either the teacher or the other students in class.
But the minute someone says they struggle or hate the class that you find amazing, you have to wonder if the teacher’s teaching is any good or if it’s your own determination that gets you through. The ability of a teacher to get the students attention and allow them to grow and get good grades is a feat most attributed to the teacher, but are they fully responsible for that, as the students own thoughts and opinions also have an effect on their grades even if the teacher is trying their hardest.
These different styles of course affect every student differently, as some see it as the teachers responsibility to help them be engaged. “The grade and relationship that the teacher with it and the students is a very important factor.” says Mrs.Perschon, a previous English middle school teacher now teaching at Kearns High school, still as an English teacher but has adopted the Avid class into her curriculum.
With this new class, it has shown that even adapting her styling, the relationship between the teacher and student, with the correlation of grades, is a two way relationship, so neither side is to blame for grades and enjoyment. But both sides need to take into consideration the other, as if one falls or fails to contribute, the other side is prone to as well.
So if teachers or students are to blame, is not the question, as the truth is which side is trying harder than the other, as both need a stable ground to flourish, it might be a hard start, but if done right, both sides can succeed in the long run.
