Joining the police force is a dangerous job and people do die but what the most dangerous part about it? Is it bank robbery? Gangs? Drug deals, etc? To answer this, we interviewed Aymee Pedroza, a Police Sergeant from the Salt Lake City Police Force.
The police have many career dangers that could lead anywhere from domestic violence, drugs, gangs, and mental health suspects. But did you know, the most common place for police officers to get injured and kill is domestic violence cases? “You know, more cops are killed responding to domestic violence calls than anything else” When I asked Aymee about the biggest dangers she had this to say, “the unknown, most of the time it is the domestic calls” Aymee has responded to many calls and says most of the dangers are from domestic violences since they are unknown and people will go from abusing their partner to trying to kill the police intervening.
Most domestic cases that have weapons increase the chance of homicide by 500%. There are much more facts on domestic violence and what dangers it imposes on law enforcement at the National Statistics website.
