Kearns High is welcoming a brand new head coach! The new head coach is Football John Rowbotham; he came from Skyline High School and is ready to interact and experience more here at Kearns. The previous football coach was Matt Rickards who was at Kearns High for 9 years and has moved to Herriman High School. Coach Row says that Skyline had amazing kids and was a great school. When he was looking into being the new coach at Kearns, he took a tour with his wife. He said one of the things he loves most about the school is the pride and the football field. He can tell everyone takes pride in it.
Coach John Rowbotham states, “Coach Rickards did an amazing job here, and we’re just trying to keep building on the foundation.” In an interview with the brand new head coach, he says his plans for the team are, “the goals that the players set, which they’ve decided they want to take regions and make a run in the playoffs, so they’re going to work for it and give it their best effort!”
According to the new head coach, his goals as a coach are to help all the players he gets to work with reach their full potential on and off the field. He also wants to help Kearns as a whole. He wants, to help kids he gets to work with reach their full potential and goals. He wants to be able to help people get to their next step, whether it’s college, a career, or something else. Even if he can write a letter of recommendation or help them get connected with a college, he wants to help people reach their next step in any way he can.
Some advice from Coach Robatham for wanting to be a coach is that you should, “only do it if you actually care about kids, not just football. working with people is far more important than just coaching football.”
Coach Robatham says that he absolutely loves it here at Kearns and is excited for the 2024 football season!
