Did you know that the Make-A-Wish Foundation has granted over 550,000 wishes? Make-A-Wish is a nonprofit organization that helps fulfill the wishes of children with a critical illness and emergency situation. To determine if you’re eligible for a wish you have to be between 3 to 18 years old, have not received a wish from another organization, and be diagnosed with a critical illness condition that is currently placing the child’s life in a life threatening stage or long term complication. Critical illnesses can be medical conditions that require high risk therapy to survive, dependent on technology to survive, and high risk of death may qualify. Several of those diseases are childhood cancers, certain types of muscular dystrophy, certain neurological or genetic diseases, cardiac disorders, renal failure, and traumatic injuries.
You can donate to the foundation by raising a charity, cryptocurrency, streaming, airline miles, car donation, hotel points, promotions that give back, donate a stock, and at wish.org. Donations have helped the organization to make wishes granted all over the world. Based on wish.org 87% of the children alumni state that their wish was a turning point in their treatment. “It was really cool, the building was really nicely decorated and I was glad that it was just for me that whole day, ” stated Brandon Subirias, a 16 year old who participated in wishing for a shopping spree.
The organization was created by Tommy Austin in Phoenix, Arizona. Make-A-Wish has 59 locations across the U.S and 50 others located around the world. Just right here in Utah, a Make-A-Wish building is located at 771 E Winchester ST, Murray, UT 84107 . “When I was opening the door to go into the make-a-wish tower, it was really cool to see all the lights,” says Brandon. The non profit organization has created amazing lifelong experiences.
The most common wishes that are wished for are to wish to meet someone, to be something, to give back, go to a theme park, and to travel somewhere. The program all began when Christopher Greicius, a 7 year old boy battling leukemia, wished to be a police officer. His community helped make his wish come true and made an impact to start this foundation to help kids all over the world. “I just found out that it’s a nonprofit organization, no one is forcing them to do that and they don’t gain anything in return so it’s cool that they made this organization to help those who went through traumatizing experiences,” shared Brandon. The caregiving foundation has helped put smiles on faces all over the world.
