Preparing for Comic Con

Hannah Berry

Comic Con the time of the year when dedicated fans gather from around from Utah for the event of a lifetime. Cosplaying for a lot of people is wonderful, but for some it’s just a little too much to commit to. With the excessive amount of time, money, patience and even practice put into it, it may turn into something you despise. Here are some tips to keep Comic Con as the marvelous experience that it should be.

First of all, try keeping your cosplay within a reasonable price range. Instead of buying an outfit with the design try turning it into an art project. A few students of Kearns High School took on this project, one of them being Rylee Taylor. She’s a sophomore here at Kearns and did the art of her cosplay herself. ”For me, it seemed a lot more difficult. But in the end, it was more fun and more rewarding because of the effort I put into it. It was great having so many strangers praise your cosplay that you made yourself.” Doing the art of a cosplay definitely takes time and patience so be prepared that.

Secondly, before going to big stores, try going to the thrift stores in our area. The low prices of clothing can be a big help in saving money but also looking ready for anything thrown at you at Comic Con. You’d be surprised at the things you could find in a thrift store.

Lastly, try finding household items that could easily be used in your cosplay. Willow Hayes a senior here at Kearns did this with her cosplay. She cosplayed as a human and female version of scar from lion king. She said that in the end her cosplay was worth it but it was a lot more difficult forming it.

Most importantly take care of yourself at Comic Con, be safe and make this experience wonderful!
