Debate

Brendan Hart

“Debate: a formal discussion on a particular topic in a public meeting or legislative assembly. In which opposing arguments are put forward.” Is the raw definition Google gives. In more relaxed words debate essentially is two people arguing for sport, they even have judges like a real sport. Just like anything you need to be good at you have to practice so with that you can assume debate isn’t any different. This will consist of what I understand can be talking to walls; we caught up with former debate hero John Kitchens to give the scoop. “Yes,” he warmly smiled. “We start with learning how to transform a topic into something we think will be interesting and then from there we share it with someone who will listen and give pointers but if not we talk to walls.” Later we discussed the hardships of him doing debate and productions company at the same time. “Stressful but rewarding,” he describes it to me after taking another sip of his water. Later he moved on to the fact that winning is a big part of it all to him “ it feels great getting out what you put in.” Last we finished off the interview with the topic of newcomers. “We love them, in fact if anyone has any questions don’t be afraid to approach me and ask,” he generously whole heartily offered. First debate match is October 7/8 don’t miss out on the fun.
