Culture Week Performances

Brielle Lewis, Staff writer

Culture week was so much fun! The performances were beautiful, it was amazing to see all the vibrant colors and unique costumes. But what is the true meaning of culture week?

“Culture week is a good way for our more diverse students or ethnically unique groups to participate and share about their cultures.” Says principal Lou.

All the groups that participated were all amazing, but a special thank you to Fatuma Hassein and Jocelyn Guzman for the interviews and insight on their dances.

Jocelyn Guzman says “yeah, we’re doing a dance called Bachatta.”

This dance was fun to try.

Fatuma Hassein did what she called an African Booty Shaking. The African dance groups costumes were bright and colorful. It was fun to see the cultural clothing they wore. Fatuma wore a dress that was mainly orange dress traditionally called a Kanga.

Trying to the African Booty Shaking was definitely not something that was going to be tested. Some bodies are not meant to move that way.

Thank you to the student counsel and anyone else who participated in putting up the beautiful art work in the hallways and the lunchroom. Good job to you guys, those were beautiful. There was a traditional African dancer in the lunchroom and a traditional Jewish wearing his traditional kippah.

The best part about culture was seeing all the different cultures and ethnicities  we have here at Kearns High School.

Thank you again to everyone for the interviews and thank you to all those who participated.
