The winner of the 2020 election has been announced and with all the events around it, the United States turns to the people Joe Biden is going to put into his staff. The people that are being named are meant to help in his first term as president.
Biden has picked Gen. Lloyd J. Austin III as the secretary of defense. He is a former commander in the American military. He retired in 2016 and returned to run the Pentagon, being the first black man to run it.
Antony J. Blinken was appointed as secretary of state. Biden hopes by appointing Blinken as secretary of state, he can rebuild the relationship between the states and the foreign countries.
Linda Thomas-Greenfield was appointed U.N. ambassador with her 35 years of foreign service behind her. Xavier Becerra was appointed as secretary of health and human services. He is the first Latino appointed to the secretary of health and human services, along with taking on the task of handling the coronavirus pandemic.
Jake Sullivan was appointed as a national security adviser. Katherine Tai, U.S. Trade representative. Susan Rice is the director of the white house domestic policy council. Denis McDonough is secretary of veteran affairs. John F. Kerry appointed as a special presidential envoy of climate. And Janet L. Yellen as treasury secretary.
Along with others, Biden’s staff seems as though it will be the most diverse of any president.
